Optimism where there is none: Asymmetric belief updating observed with valence-neutral life events
Jason W. Burton, Adam J. L. Harris, Punit Shah, Ulrike Hahn · 2022
Tests whether asymmetric belief updating (greater updating when the base rate exceeds vs. falls short of the initial estimate) appears with neutral life events, where optimism cannot explain it. Reports a significant asymmetry in all three studies and unstable results across samples and analytic techniques.

- Not in the human data: study1:e1first / study1:ebrfirst / study2:... / study3:...: The data files do not record whether E1 or eBR was asked first, so the two order arms cannot be separated. Each participant is loaded once per study with arm = condition = the study id ('study1', 'study2', 'study3').
